Pyrrhura molinae molinae
Otherwise known as the Green Cheek conure, originated in the tropical regions of Bolivia. The exact year when these birds were first introduced onto the pet market is uncertain, but their appearance in the U.S. is quite recent, probably within the last twenty or so years.

On the Open Market
Green Cheek conures run from the range of to U.S. Dollars in most averies. They are considered a "collector's breed", and are therefore not sold in franchise pet stores such as Petsmart or Pet Co. Most small averies don't even sell conures, as they are not commonly bred in the U.S. However there are some exclusive breeders who sell to larger averies, though you will never find more than two or three being sold in a year. That is because most collectors prefer the larger parrot species because of their large plumage and intelligence. What they fail to realize is that most conures far exceed their cousins' brain power.
